Career Services

Duke's MEM Program has one of the most comprehensive and aggressive career development and job search programs available. The Director of MEM Career Services, Kirsten Nicholas, works with a leading career services company to coordinate various career activities throughout the year. These activities begin at new student orientation, with two days of activities focused on career exploration and development, and continue with various seminars and workshops. Ms. Nicholas also leads individual student advising through Duke's Career Center and guides students through Duke's recruiting resources, including:
  • On-campus recruiting, including career fairs and information sessions
  • Duke eRecruiting, an online system for researching industries and employers, exploring career opportunities, networking with over 3,000 employers, and searching and applying for jobs
  • DukeConnect, an online portal that connects students to Duke alumni for guidance and networking
  • Career coaching relating to resume and cover letter critique services, interview coaching, negotiation discussions, career changers, career decisions, career exploration, networking,
  • Assessments including the MBTI and the Strong Interest Inventory to help students identify how their personality and interests may play into their career decisions.
  • Workgroups, a support system to help students stay on track, motivated and focused with quantifiable objectives during the job search process.
  • Special MEM only networking events such as Night with Industry and Alumni Networking.

The breadth of knowledge provided from the program's curriculum creates well rounded business-savvy engineers who are ready to take on the business challenges of any industry in a global world.
